ABOUT
Monica Hughes, an amazing female woodworker, owns and operates Naked Tree Woodworking in Grass Valley, California. Since 1998, Naked Tree has specialized in designing and fabricating beautiful custom furniture. Monica’s creativity, passion for innovation, keen focus and attention to detail quickly caught the attention of customers in search of one-of-a-kind pieces. Her invention of the “Sip and Spin Skatables”, a line of tables designed to rotate on top of skateboard wheels, gained such attention. These uniquely crafted tables are most commonly used for coffee roasting samplings known as "cuppings," entertaining and in restaurants.
Monica began collaborating and sharing a workshop with Sally Peterson, at Big Star Ranch and the Funkyard, in 2015. Combining their expertise in design and fabrication with a few others that specialize in construction, painting and graphic design, they have created Overall Collective Design (OCD). They create projects together that combine their shared commitment to creating things as sustainably as possible, using reclaimed material and upcycling, in an effort to limit their carbon footprint. Thanks to the rapidly growing "salvage movement" combined with Peterson and Hughes' mastery in metal and wood, their work began attracting local and national attention. Monica and Sally are master craftswomen, and along with their team, they “can do anything.”
Working With the Baldoni Family
Sally and I had the distinct pleasure of building a dining table crafted with a big slab of Walnut and a custom base created with reclaimed farm plows for the sweetest couple, Justin and Emily Baldoni. We hand-delivered it and they were thrilled. Can't wait to see it in their new home soon.
